Role – Brand Identity + Art Direction
Reinvigorating a brand experience, for a video chat app.
Marco Polo is an asynchronous video chat app, with the mission of helping people feel close. Sharing conversational video messages with your people at your convenience makes for an easier way to stay in touch. By leveraging the brand’s purpose-driven story we aimed to show how a more personal connection can be a catalyst for transforming your relationships.
I refreshed the brand across all critical touch points and designed for a variety of new marketing initiatives, collaborating on both product and marketing projects. From wireframing new webpages, to in-app onboarding, to social campaigns, I helped modernize and bring continuity to Marco Polo for better brand recognition.
Branding Real Connection
Taking from Marco Polo’s warm and welcoming personality, the design system needed to inspire family friendly audiences and celebrate the joy of feeling close to your people. The established beach ball logo informed the continuation of a rainbow palette but required an updated color scheme. I introduced a new illustration style using cheerful “Amigos” characters to activate our storytelling. Typography was updated to a contemporary sans serif, more favorable for mobile but also functional for display purposes.
I was responsible for refreshing the look and feel of the brand and for determining how it would play out across different channels.
Launching an Ambassador program
Having long learned from the super users of Marco Polo, we knew there was an opportunity to share their impactful stories to broader audiences. What followed was a close knit community of diverse storytellers who all shared a common goal of bringing more folks into the Marco Polo fold.
